Palio Dinner Plate, The Snail

These plates are a celebration of the Palio—a wild and intoxicating horse race that takes place in the main piazza of Siena, Italy. Each displays a symbol that correlates to one of the teams, based on the different districts in the city.

Chiocciola (The Snail): Traditionally Chiocciola residents worked with terracotta. Chiocciola's motto is “With slow and deliberate steps, snail takes the field to triumph.” Chiocciola's rival is Tartuca (Tortoise). Its allies are Istrice (Porcupine), Pantera (Panther) and Selva (Forest).
